Priority System Questions

What is the new priority system?

Our new priority system determines an artist’s order of registration and when each artist gets to select their tent location. In the past, an artist's tent selection time was based only on the order they registered. The priority system modifies this process so that the longer an artist has been involved in the event, the higher their order of registration, the earlier they get to choose their tent location. Only returning artists can participate in the priority system.

Why use the priority system?
This new process was created as the result of artist feedback from ArtWalk 2005. We greatly value the loyalty of artists that have been in the show year after year and this new process rewards loyal event participants. The new tent selection system takes into consideration the number of year’s artists and groups have shown their work at the festival. It also eliminates the stress of lining up at the event office during event set up to register for the following year.

How does the priority system work?

We determine priority status by the number of years of event participation since 2002 (the first year the streets of Little Italy became home to the festival). Here is how it works:

1. We assign priority status to each registration determined by the number of years each artist and group has participated in the event.

2. Priority groups consist of all artists and groups who have participated in the festival for the same number of years. In other words, artists and groups who participated for five years are in one priority group, artists and groups who have participated for 4 years are in another priority group, and so on.

3. Random drawings from each priority group then determine tent selection order. In other words, all the artists and groups with five years’ participation will be drawn first and so on.

4. The priority system is open only to returning artists.

5. NEW artists and groups will pick their tents based on the order in which they register.

The application form gives complete details on the priority system.

Do my years of event participation have to be consecutive?
No. The priority system looks at the TOTAL number of years, since 2002, that the artist or group has shown their work at the festival.

What is the Federal ArtWalk 2010 priority system deadline?
The deadline was Friday, May 8, 2009.

What if I miss the priority system deadline?
You may still apply any time before the event application deadline of January 8, 2010 or prior to the event selling out. However, you will be registered based on the order in which your completed application packet is received only.

Is the priority system open to all artists?
Only returning artists are eligible for this new program.

What does this mean for new artists?
Artists who have not participated before are not eligible for the priority system. New artists will pick their tents based on the order in which they apply, if they are within the first 150 artists who apply.

Do you tell me what my priority number is?
No. Your priority number is only an internal tool, which we use when the tent selection process begins. We will contact you in the Fall of 2009 when it is your turn to pick your tent.
