Thomas Barbèy grew up in Geneva, Switzerland, across the street from the Caran D’ache factory, a large art supply manufacturer. He began drawing seriously at age 13 using black encre de Chine and gouaches for color. His influences included Philippe Druillet, Roger Dean and H.R. Giger. Thomas lived in Geneva for 17 years designing posters for musical bands and then moved to Milan, Italy where, for 15 years, he worked as a successful recording artist, lyricist and fashion photographer. Today he lives in Las Vegas and travels the world, taking his camera wherever he goes. Most recently, he creates black and white photomontages. Thomas combines several images taken over a period of as many as twenty years to create surreal situations with the help of the enlarger in a dark room. The images come to life after combining negatives from many different time frames; only after finding a perfect “match” do these images give birth to a completely unusual vision. The title he gives each piece represents the “glue and substance” of the final creation. Thomas exhibits in galleries throughout the world and his work is included in many private collections such as the Madden Museum in Denver, Colorado, the private collections of David Baldacci, Carlos Santana, Mick Fleetwood and the Trump Family, and as well as many corporate collections.
