Georgia On My Mind

View full artist profile

Karen Eastman was always painting, drawing, or creating something from a very young age. This passion to create led her to study art at the University of Colorado in Boulder. After graduation, she moved to San Diego and enjoyed a career in sales and merchandising, but she always felt something was missing. Karen came to realize that her passion for creating art had gotten away from her, so she started her own business called Paint, Glaze and Fire!, a ceramics studio in Encinitas. She enjoyed helping customers nurture and advance their own creativity, which in turn, revitalized her own love of painting. She eventually sold her business and began to focus on her own painting career

Karen has shown her work in many different venues, from Mission Federal ArtWalk to several galleries. Her work hangs in homes across the country and she has completed a number of commissioned pieces for the National Institute of Health in Washington DC.

Karen’s artwork focuses on the relationship between the human spirit and how she sees it embodied in the forms found in nature. Her favorite metaphors relate to the beauty of the tree. Karen also likes to take smaller parts of the organic whole, such as leaves, branches, rocks or grass and paint segments, or close up views of these natural forms. She strives to create an intimate experience for the viewer.
