Red Wolf paints on sandwiched honeycomb aluminum panels. He finds that scoring a highly reflective groove pattern into the aluminum substrate enables him to have a degree of control of the path of light rays entering and exiting the picture. By varying the direction, depth, and angle of these cut groves in aluminum he produces a somewhat holographic illusion of dimension.
Red Wolf creates paintings in multiple layers of selected plastic coatings. He utilizes several combinations of thin films and particles to create and control structural colors at various wavelengths. The artist describes the process this way: “I utilize differences in the index of refractivity of alternating coatings to manipulate the course and speed of light penetrating what I have come to view as the matrix of my painting.”
Red Wolf strives to develop ways that he can create structural color elements within his artwork. This ability to harness nano structures and light is a driving force in Red Wolf’s research and development of his artistic expression.
