Full artist profile

Susanne Slater took up drawing at an early age. She grew up in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana where she was exposed to her father's love of western painters and sculptures. In her early 20's she moved to San Diego and began a career as a registered nurse and continued with her drawing with pencil and pen. In 2000, with the full support of her husband, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a full-time artist. Susanne enrolled in classes at Jeff Watts Atelier in Encinitas where she learned the classical approach to art through figure drawing and sculpting. There she took her first watercolor class with award-winning local artist Jim Millard. Susanne has not stopped painting since.

In 2001 she became a member of the San Diego Watercolor Society where she studied under internationally known artists such as Alvaro Castagnet, Frank Web, Don Andrews, Frank Francese and Eric Wiegardt. Though Susanne has traveled to France, England and Italy to work, her favorite place to paint is San Diego. Susanne regularly enters her paintings in juried shows where they have won many awards.
