Harold Pickern was born in 1947 and raised in rural northern California. As a child drawing was his favorite pastime. In elementary and high school Harold was the kid that the teachers came to when they needed drawings or scenery. He studied art and art education at Phoenix City College and Arizona State University.
Harold describes his work this way: "I cannot remember a time when I didn't make art. The process of converting materials into different, thought provoking objects or images is where the juice is. As a painter I enjoy having the freedom to paint things that I like, from old cars to cowboys. To capture the romance that exists in even the most commonplace object or scene continues to be a motivating force in my work. One of my favorite themes is dealing with images of discarded objects found in the American landscape. I enjoy creating the realistic illusion of texture, light, and space while interpreting everyday subjects that everyone can relate to. In a way these paintings give new life and an unintended use to objects that have outlived their original purpose."
Harold's work has appeared in exhibitions throughout the country including the Coconut Grove Art Festival, Austin Fine Art Festival, Bethesda Fine Art and Beverly Hills Affaire in the Garden and more, and he has earned numerous awards. Harold lives in San Diego.
